MALI MARELL DANDRIDGE
Digital Art
Creating digital art is a beloved hobby of mine that I picked up within the last two years. My preferred method is ProCreate.

“This Amoeba is a Black Woman”
Dimensions: Digital, but drawn on a 10in x 7in iPad screen
Materials: Procreate (Drawn on an Apple iPad using an apple pencil).
Blurb: Black women are, in many ways, the lifeblood and backbone of society--and certainly my universe. This piece portrays our beauty, significance, and distinction even on a microscopic level.

“Sad Hot Girls”
Dimensions: Digital, but drawn on a 10in x 7in iPad screen
Materials: Procreate (Drawn on an Apple iPad using an apple pencil).
Blurb: The inspiration for this piece largely comes from the feelings of insecurity and inadequacy I, and my other BIPOC femme friends feel within the dating scene at Brown. Having to face the reality of not being conventionally beautiful by eurocentric standards at a Predominately White Institution while maintaining a mask of confidence makes us “Sad Hot Girls.”

“For Sarah Baartman”
Dimensions: Digital, but drawn on a 10in x 7in iPad screen
Materials: Procreate (Drawn on an Apple iPad using an apple pencil).
Blurb: This piece is dedicated to Sarah Baartman, also known as Hottentot Venus, who was an enslaved African woman who was paraded around the world by her master because of her “unusual shape.” Her story is the epitome of colonial exploitation and the dehumanization of black women, as she was seen as an “amusement” for consumption.

“Ambiguous African Maternal Figure”
Dimensions: Digital, but drawn on a 10in x 7in iPad screen
Materials: Procreate (Drawn on an Apple iPad using an apple pencil).
Blurb: This piece is a homage to my female ancestors, whose names, origins, and stories remain ambiguous due to American Slavery.

“Hola Clown!”
Dimensions: Digital, but drawn on a 10in x 7in iPad screen
Materials: Procreate (Drawn on an Apple iPad using an apple pencil).
Blurb: This piece is dedicated to one of my best friends and favorite people-- Eastlyn, who taught me the beauty of shameless, silly expression and humor. We began greeting each other with this phrase during our sophomore year at Brown, and it is a token of our relationship.

“Roast Beef Stream of Consciousness”
Dimensions: Digital, but drawn on a 10in x 7in iPad screen
Materials: Procreate (Drawn on an Apple iPad using an apple pencil).
Blurb: This piece is dedicated to black and brown women who are frustrated with how their vaginas are demonized and disrespected.
